Tanoshiiya is run by a friendly married couple. The village is closely associated with Tengu (legendary creatures from Japanese folklore). There are also ta-no-kami statues around the village which are commonly found in southern Kyushu as protectors of rice fields. In Autumn the village looks particularly beautiful when the sunflowers are in bloom.
